Removing Impersonators
Impersonator accounts can damage your reputation and steal your subscribers. Here's how Fanlock helps you handle them.
What is an Impersonator?
An impersonator is someone who:
- Uses your photos, videos, or content without permission
- Pretends to be you on social media or content platforms
- Creates fake accounts using your stage name or likeness
- Scams people by pretending to offer your content
How Fanlock Handles Impersonators
When our scans detect potential impersonator accounts, we:
- Verify the account is fraudulent through human review
- Document the impersonation for legal purposes
- Submit takedown requests to the platform
- Escalate as necessary if the platform doesn't respond
Reporting an Impersonator
If you've found an impersonator account:
- Log into your dashboard
- Go to the Submit section
- Enter the URL of the impersonator profile
- Select "Impersonator" as the type (if prompted)
- Include any additional context that proves you're the real creator
What Qualifies as Impersonation?
Clear impersonation includes:
- Using your exact stage name
- Using your photos as profile pictures
- Reposting your content as their own
- Claiming to be you in bio or posts
Tips for Protecting Yourself
- Watermark your content with your official username
- Verify your accounts on platforms that offer verification
- Use consistent branding across all your official accounts
- Add your official accounts to your Safelist so we know which are real
What If the Platform Won't Remove Them?
If a platform is slow to act or refuses to remove an impersonator, we escalate by:
- Filing additional reports through different channels
- Contacting platform legal teams directly
- Pursuing hosting provider takedowns when applicable
